ZuriQ, a Zurich, Switzerland-based quantum computers company, raised $4.2M in Seed funding.

The round was led by Founderful with participation from SquareOne, First Momentum Ventures, OnSight Ventures and QAI Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its development efforts.

Founded by Shreyans Jain, Tobias Saegesser and Pavel Hrmo, ZuriQ is an ETH Zurich spin-out building a quantum computer with scalability at its heart. Its quantum computers use perfect qubits, individual trapped atomic ions, arranged in reconfigurable 2-dimensional lattices. Devices using this type of qubit have already demonstrated the highest-fidelity operations across platforms in small systems with tens of qubits in a 1-dimensional architecture, but qubit number scaling is limited.

The systems will be continuously upgraded as the hardware matures, with particular focus on applications requiring high data privacy, such as financial portfolio optimization or drug design.
