Introducing the Classic Fusion Tourbillon Orlinski

Hublot’s partnership with contemporary artist Richard Orlinski has perfectly melded the worlds, and crafts, of art and watchmaking. They are bold, heavily geometric, on-trend and exciting for those who love cutting edge design.

This pairing is especially perfect when you consider the hefty size and shape of the Classic Fusion. Orlinski excels with the faceted concept, and 2019 is off to a great start with three new, and very limited edition, Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 Day models. Available in Sapphire, King Gold, and Black Magic options, everything you love about the Orlinski range, from the 45mm case to the skeleton dial is there, with a few tweaks.

The movement

Complete with the HUB6021 manufacture manual-winding power reserve skeleton tourbillon movement, the sapphire dial reveals the mechanics which match whichever model colour you opt for. The sub-dials are slightly buried behind coloured micro-components that draw the eye to the complex inner-workings of the the famous Hublot tourbillon movement which has been completely redesigned.

These models differ in that the view is somewhat more complex, moving away from the dual sub-dial focus of previous models, with a greater emphasis on the movement itself and a power reserve that is displayed on a ring. The power reserve offers approximately 115 hours and the pieces are water resistant to about 30 meters.

The colourways

With each model limited to only thirty pieces, we range from a casual look, in the almost clear Sapphire model, to the casual yet stylish all dark, Black Magic, and the formal King Gold. Each model comes with smooth rubber straps that give a more relaxed feel to the watch each with a ceramic and plated stainless steel deployant buckle clasp relevant to the colour option.

The Orlinski touch

Richard Orlinski, the French artist, best known for his “Born Wild” animal sculptures, has brought his geometric, sharp-edged 3D sculptural style to the coloured ceramic case, bezel and even the prominent H-shaped titanium screws that are a stand-out, especially on the Black Magic and Kind Gold versions as they break up the driving colour of the piece beautifully. These pieces follow the vibrant colour ceramic of the Big Bang Unico Red Magic, the previous release in the Hublot/Orlinski partnership.

Those who have been following the Hublot/Orlinski path will no doubt be asking what’s next? It seems as though Hublot will continue to innovate aesthetically with new hi-tech coloured ceramics and technically, by expanding the Orlinski range to include additional complications. Can we expect an Orlinski tourbillon? Only time will tell.
